5th Grade Students earn Orange Belt

Here are some of the students from Ms Jordan's class who passed the Orange Belt test in Recorder Karate.
They practiced together in small groups then tested by themselves to earn the Orange Belt.
Their testing song was Merrily We Roll Along. All of the students in this class passed the test!
Congratulations Jr Cards! We are very proud of you!

Composer Spotlight - Camille Saint Saens

picture from wikipedia

Camille Saint Saens is a composer (a person who writes music)
He was born in France. (check out cia factbook)
When he was a child he played the piano and he loved to write his own songs.

When he turned 13 years old he went to a conservatory (a special school) to learn more about music. While he was there he learned to play the organ and people say that he was the best in the world!

He wrote a lot of music for the orchestra.
In class we are learning about a song he wrote called Danse Macabre. (you can hear the song on wikipedia.) It begins very soft and low, but the sound builds and gets louder and faster. It is a great piece of music!

Camille Saint Saens once said, " I live in music like a fish lives in water." What do you think he meant by that?

Guest Blog by Amara

Hello boys and girls this is Amara!

I just wanted to say “Hi” and talk about our music teacher. She is doing so good this school year. She is always in a funky mood and I love all the new dances like the Sid Shuffle!

I think it is so fun to do and if you have not danced it just ask her and I bet ya’ll will do it.  It is a lot of fun!

Comment on my message and tell me how you are doing in music?!?!

5th Graders Making Music

These students from the 5th Grade really work hard learning to read music. Then they can show what they know by playing it on Recorders, Electric Keyboards, and Pianos.
